Launch of the public consultation process to review Canada's next strategic framework for agriculture and agri-food, led by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.

This consultation exercise is an important step, as it will help define the broad outlines of the Next Strategic Framework (NSF) for agriculture, which will apply for the period 2028-2033 and will succeed the Canadian Partnership for Sustainable Agriculture.

What does the consultation involve?

The consultation aims to gather the perspectives of stakeholders in the agriculture and agri-food sector in order to:

• strengthen the sector's competitiveness;
• support environmental sustainability;
• improve the resilience of agricultural businesses in the face of economic and climate challenges;
• better respond to regional realities.

Who can participate?

The consultation is open to all partners in the sector, including:

• producers;
• agricultural organizations and associations;processors;
• Indigenous communities;
• young people and women working in the agricultural sector.

Key dates to remember

• January 2026: Official launch of the consultation
• July 2026: Planned announcement of a policy statement by federal, provincial, and territorial ministers
• December 2027: End of the consultation period
