Pesticides and fertilizers

  • Prohibited uses

    Except in the case of the authorized exceptions mentioned above, no exterior application of pesticides is permitted on the territory covered by this policy. No application of fertilizers to lawns is permitted on the territory covered by this agreement.

  • Uses authorized without a permit

    The following uses are authorized without obtaining a permit from the Municipality:

    • Low-impact pesticides, soil conditioners and domestic compost;
    • The following work carried out inside or on a building; the application of insect repellents, rodenticides and sealed bait boxes for domestic use to eliminate ants;
    • Insecticide collars for animals;
    • The application of pesticides in railway and power transmission rights-of-way for safety reasons only;
      In public or private swimming pools or in closed artificial basins.
  • Permit-approved uses

    The use of the following fertilizers and pesticides is authorized only with a permit from the Municipality:

    • For horticultural operations;
    • In cases of major infestation endangering the health and survival of plants;
    • To control or eradicate plants that are a danger to humans who are allergic to them;
    • To control or eradicate animals that are a danger to humans;
    • To apply fertilizers to lawns.

Goals

In order to protect the quality of our water, our vegetation and our environment, the Municipality has decided to regulate the spreading of fertilizers on lawns, as well as the use of pesticides.

Please note that the spreading of fertilizers mentioned in this regulation does not apply to farmers already regulated by MAPAQ. Please note that it is necessary to consult the by-law or the municipal environment officer to obtain all the information applicable to your case.

Prohibitions, permits and fines

The table below illustrates the uses prohibited, authorized and requiring a permit. In the event of non-compliance, fines of up to $2,000 for citizens and $4,000 for contractors are provided for in the by-law.
