West Bolton is part of the enhanced surveillance zone for raccoon rabies. This zone, located in Montérégie, Estrie, and Centre-du-Québec, includes the municipalities where the likelihood of detecting cases of raccoon rabies in wildlife is highest. Within this zone, residents are asked to report suspicious animals to the Ministry of the Environment, Climate Change, Wildlife, and Parks (MELCCFP) in order to detect and monitor the spread of new cases of rabies among wild animals in southern Quebec.
